Donna Camilla Savelli

The Donna Camilla Savelli is a mixed bag. The positives- the building itself - It is simply beautiful. The common areas, hallways and garden are so elegant. The serving staff, cleaners, and Ian the bell boy were also lovely. The negatives- For a four star hotel our “Executive” room was somewhat disappointing. The soundproofing was very poor. We were woken between 5-6am every morning by delivery vehicles, laundry collection, glass collection etc. The bathroom was very outdated, no dressing gowns, no coffee machine, and (strangest of all) two paper cups (a china cup and saucer would have been nice). The buffet breakfast was extensive. A large choice of food. Unfortunately the bacon and sausages were very greasy though, and a $5 extra charge for an omelette rather unnecessary in a 4 star establishment. Also milk had to be requested which was also strange. Finally we found the reception staff to be polite, but a little cold and unwelcoming (sorry not being unkind but that was our impression). Overall we loved the hotel building and garden, but feel that the overall experience could have been better, especially given the premium price charged to stay there.

Initial contact before we arrived was to Mr & Mrs! Come off it in this day and age. I made comment of this when arriving with my male partner & reception chose to ignore it. We had always wanted to stay here & so we did to celebrate my partner’s 50th. We were offered a glass of bubbles each at the bar & the size of the drinks ensured we didn’t rack up a payment to any more. The highlight of course is the breakfast! We also enjoy a cuppa first thing in the morning in our room! And the ignoble act of drinking out of paper cups (hardly sustainable!) in a 4* hotel is contemptible sorry : totally unacceptable! And the horrid ‘milk’ designed as it said for coffee! Toiletries were good & the sleep quality : despite the all too obvious noise (I think in house too : we were in room 124). Sadly, some idiot had left the lock out going into the bathroom! I caught my arm on it (it was v sharp). Couldn’t stop the blood. I rang down to request a plaster (to save my white shirt ) A bag was immediately dispatched to our room, it had all manner of things in it & the tiniest of plasters ! I returned the bag to reception & said there were no appropriate plasters in there & they should check the bag contents. No comment as to how I injured myself! But, an assurance they would try to sort some plasters. We wanted to go and enjoy breakfast & off we went. The lass on reception kindly brought a couple of plasters to us. Still no interest as to how I injured myself! The WiFi we found to be poor & it kept logging out! On reflection, we felt we would have gotten better elsewhere at a more competitive price on balance: as lovely as the breakfast was. It is looking a little tired, bathrooms, cracks in walls…

The Donna Camilla Savelli hotel is an amazing place. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. The hotel is tucked into the corner of Trastevere. The high walls around the entrance courtyard help to add to the seclusion and help to remind you this was once a convent. Once inside you are greeted with a surprising beauty. There is an inner courtyard were we took breakfast everyday. It was a very peaceful way to start the day. Our room was well decorated and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. After the long days of sightseeing and eating the wonderful food we found in Trastevere, coming back to the Donna Camilla put us at ease and gave us a great rest, away from the noise and activity of Roma.

We enjoyed staying at this high-quality hotel. All staff were professional, efficient , helpful, and friendly. The buffet breakfast was nice and offered good choices. Our Superior Room was quite modern with plenty of space, a large shower room, good air-conditioning, and was quiet. The location worked well for us. The garden terrace was pleasant despite a few pigeons, and the roof terrace offered a panoramic view.

This was a special surprise for us. We booked a room for a night and where completely amazed at this place. It’s an old monastery that still has 4 nuns living there. All rooms are different, the staff is great and the breakfast was delicious. It’s located in the Trastevere area and a stroll through the great restaurants around that area.

Excellent, luxurious and beautiful place to retreat trom the hectic streets of the city, very close to the cosy centre of Trastevere. The personnel is as professional as they are gentle and discrete. This hotel is everything they promise. How nice it is to have that splendid breakfast between threes in that stylish garden or in the traditional refectory. Mind you, the beautiful roof terrace is too hot to use when the temperature is up during daytime, but it is a dream at night ('la grande belezza'-feeling). On the second floor there is a small lounge room with free non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks: nice as a provision but not a pleasant place to stay as it is chilly and a bit 'lost' in the labyrinthic building. But the alternative, the gigantic lounge near the entrance, is very comfortable and classy. On the whole, we can highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is situated just on the edge of river in Travestere neighbourhood. Location is only 10 min walk from major streets and sights but it is much quiter which means after long days of sightseeing or travelling it is great to come back to a quiet hotel. However the hotel is also within the 2-3 min walk vicinity of the amazing Travestere neighbourhood full of amazing cocktail bars and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful with a small spa which we did not get the chance to use but i am sure it is nice. Staff are polite and helpful. Rooms were nice though a little outdated tired looking shower. But all and all it was good in the room with a comfortable bed, clean bedding and good air conditioning. Wifi is strong. We had dinner in the hotel one night and it was good. Service at the restaurant was great excellent almost michelin star service, i was not impressed with the gnocchietti but service and the quiet beautiful terrace made up for it. Best thing about hotel is service of the staff, the beautiful terrace at the top with views and the location. Truely great. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Not sure about families with children only it has not got outdoor pool.
